- Scammers have come up with a way to deceive Russians who have returned from foreign trips
A new fraud scheme has appeared in Russia, aimed at citizens who have returned from foreign trips. This was reported on March 30 in the Telegram channel of the Department for combating the illegal use of information and communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.
The attackers contact the victims via messengers, posing as government officials, and report alleged offenses in other countries.
Scammers convince tourists that during the trip they contacted undesirable organizations in the Russian Federation, for which they now face criminal liability and account blocking. To "solve the problem", the victim is offered to transfer funds to a "secure account" or install a special application via a link.
The ministry stressed that government agencies never require money transfers during telephone conversations. When receiving such messages, citizens are advised to immediately stop communicating and block suspicious numbers.
On the same day, the representative of the tourism sector, Bekir Dolmush, reported that Russian tourists are increasingly becoming victims of fraud when renting housing in Turkey. According to the expert, the spread of such schemes is associated with the active development of online platforms and social networks, where ads are placed without proper verification.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
