The Iranian parliament is considering the possibility of the country's withdrawal from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). This was announced on March 30 by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, Esmail Bagai.

"The issue of withdrawal from the NPT is being considered in Parliament. What is the benefit of participating in the agreement if international players do not allow us to enjoy the benefits and rights provided for in it? The Islamic Republic of Iran has never sought and does not seek to create nuclear weapons," the SNN TV channel quoted him as saying on its Telegram channel.

Bagai noted that Iran has never sought to create and use nuclear weapons. He clarified that Iran has a clear position, which is to ban and destroy weapons of mass destruction.

Alaeddin Boroujerdi, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic, said on the same day that Iran needs to withdraw from the NPT, since after the aggression of the United States and Israel, participation in it makes no sense. According to Boroujerdi, the majority of Iranian parliamentarians share the opinion on the need to withdraw from the treaty.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on March 28 that the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East continues to grow, despite the risks of radioactive contamination. According to her, the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran's nuclear facilities violate international law and deserve "strong condemnation from the entire world community." In addition, they also violate the NPT, the IAEA verification mechanisms and conventions in the field of nuclear and physical safety.
