Members of the Central Election Commission of Russia have re-elected Ella Pamfilova to the post of CEC chairman. Thus, at the end of the voting on March 30, she became the first head of the Central Election Commission in the history of the Russian Federation to hold this position for a third term.

"15 out of 15 CEC members voted for Pamfilova Ella Alexandrovna," Konstantin Mazurevsky, chairman of the counting commission and a member of the CEC of the Russian Federation, announced the results. The broadcast was carried out on the CEC website.

As Nikolai Levichev, a member of the commission, noted before the start of voting, the body made a collegial decision to nominate Pamfilova to the post of CEC chairman again, having coordinated it with all colleagues. This decision was made at the general meeting of the CEC members with the right to a decisive vote on the eve of the first meeting of the new composition of the commission.

This year, a new composition of the Central Election Commission has been formed for a period of five years. The first meeting is of an organizational nature: the chairman, his deputy and secretary are elected by secret ballot. The CEC consists of 15 voting members: five are appointed by the President of Russia, the Federation Council and the State Duma.

Last weekend, Russians elected 20 governors, 11 regional parliaments, and 46,000 deputies at various levels.

On March 20, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree appointing five members of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation. It follows from the document that the new commission includes Igor Borisov, Natalia Budarina, Anton Lopatin, Ella Pamfilova and Anatoly Sysoev. All of them have experience working in the electoral system. Pamfilova, who headed the CEC since 2016, retained the status of a member of the commission.
