The current president of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), Frenchman Luc Tardif, has decided not to run for a new term. This became known on March 29 from a statement on the organization's website.

"Given the strong and stable position of the federation, Tardif has come to the conclusion that now is the right time to step down as president. The IIHF fully respects his decision not to seek a new term and recognizes the long-term impact of his contributions. Mr. Tardif will remain in office until the end of his term in October," the publication says.

Tardif has been President of the IIHF since 2021. Under his leadership, the national teams of Russia and Belarus were suspended from international tournaments under the auspices of the IIHF due to the situation in Ukraine.

On February 10, Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports and Chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee, called Luc Tardif, head of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), a "rare scoundrel." Degtyarev described the IIHF as the most difficult federation and added that the transfer of a place at the Olympics to France hints at a conflict of interest due to Tardif's citizenship.
