Hungary allegedly took all EU countries hostage with its decision to block anti-Russian sanctions packages. This was announced on March 29 by the Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sibiga.

"Yes, unfortunately, the 20th package is blocked by Hungary. This is the reality. We also said that one country <...> has taken hostage almost the entire European Union and the entire sanctions policy. This is unacceptable," Sibiga said in an interview with Ukrinform.

According to the diplomat, he allegedly heard "very harsh" assessments of the current situation from Ukraine's Western partners. According to Sibiga, the EU already has a willingness to respond to Budapest's policy.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on March 28 that Slovakia would support Hungary's veto against the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions if the European Commission did not change its policy on the Druzhba gas pipeline. The Prime minister added that the issue of resuming oil supplies through Druzhba concerns not only Hungary and Slovakia, but the whole of Central Europe. According to Fico, if the pipeline had been working, there would have been no problems with high fuel prices.

The American Thinker magazine reported on March 27 that Ukraine has launched an economic and energy war against Slovakia and Hungary, which in turn are members of the EU and the North Atlantic Alliance. It was emphasized that the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, does not intend to restore the blocked Druzhba pipeline, on which both Bratislava and Budapest depend.
