Cuban President calls killing of journalists in Lebanon a "heinous act"
On March 28, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel condemned the murder of journalists from Al Mayadeen and Al Manar TV channels and called the incident "a heinous act of the Zionist regime of Israel."
"We deeply regret the murder of journalists Fatima Ftouni, Mohammed Ftouni and Ali Shuaib in southern Lebanon, and we join in condemning this heinous act by the Zionist regime of Israel, which once again turned its weapons against those who boldly cover the horrors of the war against the Lebanese people," the statement said. Diaz-Canel also expressed his condolences to the friends and families of the victims.
Al Mayadeen journalists Fatima Ftouni, her photojournalist brother Mohammed Ftouni, and Al—Manar reporter Ali Shuaib were killed on March 28 in an attack by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in southern Lebanon. Ftouni and Shuaib, just a couple of hours before their deaths, had Telegram channels where they posted small messages about what was happening in Lebanon. The car used by the media staff turned out to be almost completely destroyed.
On the same day, Izvestia published footage where Lebanese residents came out to honor the memory of employees of Al Manar and Al Mayadeen TV channels. The protesters expressed outrage at Israel's actions, noting that this is not the first time journalists have been targeted.
