- The price of fuel in the United States has exceeded $5 per gallon due to the conflict in the Middle East
Fuel prices at Washington gas stations exceeded $5 per gallon (about 109 rubles per liter) due to the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran. It follows from calculations by RIA Novosti on March 29.
It is specified that the cost of regular gasoline in Washington reaches $ 5.09 per gallon, and diesel — $ 5.59 per gallon (119 rubles per liter). According to the American Automobile Association, the national average price is $3.97 per gallon (85 rubles per liter), which is almost $1 more than a month ago, when it was $2.98 per gallon (63.8 rubles per liter).
Maxim Chirkov, an economist and associate professor at the State University of Management, told Izvestia on March 2 that the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East could lead to serious consequences for the global economy, primarily for the oil and gas markets. According to him, up to 20% of the world's oil supplies and more than 30% of liquefied natural gas pass through the Strait of Hormuz, so any disruptions can have a significant impact on the global energy market.
The Strait of Hormuz in southern Iran, which is used for the passage of oil tankers, was completely closed by the IRGC on February 28. Some major oil companies and leading trading houses have suspended the supply of crude oil and fuel through the Strait of Hormuz due to Israeli and US strikes on Iran.
On February 28, Tel Aviv and Washington launched a large-scale military operation in Iran. The head of the White House, Donald Trump, called her goal the protection of the American people. The United States and Israel have carried out numerous attacks on military and civilian targets in Iran, including a school in the city of Minab.
