- The AfD and CDU parties shared the first place in the rating according to the survey results.
The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and the Christian Democratic Union (CDU/CSU) share the first place in the ranking of parties in Germany. This was reported by the Bild newspaper on March 28, based on a survey conducted by the INSA institute.
"According to a public opinion poll conducted on Sunday by the INSA institute for the Bild newspaper, <...> and Alternative for Germany has equaled the CDU/CSU in popularity," the publication says.
It is specified that both political parties scored 26% each. Next are the Social Democrats (SPD) with 14% and the Union 90/Greens with 12%.
As the newspaper notes, since it is necessary to gain 45% of the vote in order to obtain a parliamentary majority, if the elections were held now, the current government, consisting of the CDU/CSU and the SPD, would not be able to get a majority and would be forced to enter into a coalition with other parties.
The survey was conducted on March 23-27 among 1,205 respondents, with a margin of error of 2.9%.
Alice Weidel, co-chairman of the Alternative for Germany party, said on March 15 that the AFD was considering the possibility of nominating its own candidate for the post of federal president of Germany in the 2027 elections. It was noted that in Germany, the Federal President is elected by the Federal Assembly, which is specially convened for this purpose, a constitutional body that consists of deputies of the Bundestag and representatives of the federal states.
