Due to problems in the global energy market, France should suspend sanctions against Russia, as the United States did. This was stated on March 28 by the leader of the French Patriots party, Florian Philippot, speaking at a protest against anti-Russian sanctions.

"The United States has suspended sanctions against Russia, and so has the Republic of Korea. France should do the same, because we have gas and oil at hand, which are necessary for a normal life. But to do this, we need to leave the European Union, because this decision depends on Brussels — not on Paris, but on the EU. Therefore, if we want to do this, we need to become an independent country, we need Frexit (withdrawal from the EU. — Ed.)," TASS quoted Filippo as saying.

The demonstrators also expressed their disagreement with the policies of French President Emmanuel Macron, including those related to anti-Russian sanctions.

On March 19, Philippot sharply criticized the European Union (EU), calling it a "totalitarian contagion." The politician called for the lifting of sanctions against Russia against the background of the conflict in the Middle East, which led to a spike in energy prices.
