- The head of the IBU announced his unwillingness to return Russians to international competitions.
On March 28, the President of the International Biathlon Union (IBU), Olle Dahlin, announced his unwillingness to return Russian athletes to international competitions under the auspices of the organization.
The head of the sports federation announced the position of the organization during a visit to the Ukrainian Biathlon Championship. According to him, the IBU intends to take a hard line on the issue of athletes' suspension.
"We continue to stand our ground. As the military conflict continues, we do not want to return Russian athletes to the competition," the Ukrainian edition of Public Sport quoted him as saying.
Russian Sports Minister and head of the Russian Olympic Committee Mikhail Degtyarev said on March 19 that he expects Russian athletes to perform with the national flag and anthem at the next Olympics. He noted that 16 international federations already allow juniors with flags and anthems by decision of the IOC. The minister also cited the example of recent competitions in Tbilisi and Serbia, where the Russian flag was raised and the anthem was played at the European Fencing and wrestling Championships.
