Zakharova pointed out the neglect of risks in attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities
The escalation of the conflict continues to grow in the Middle East, despite the risks of radioactive contamination. This was announced on March 28 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"The aggressors continue to raise the stakes in their war in the Middle East — despite all the risks associated with this, including the danger of large-scale radioactive contamination. On March 27, the states that attacked Iran carried out targeted attacks on the heavy—water complex in Khondaba and the uranium ore concentrate plant in Ardakan," Zakharova said on the ministry's website.
She added that soon after that, strikes began in the Bushehr NPP area. According to her, these attacks violate international law and deserve "strong condemnation from the entire international community." In addition, they also violate the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, the IAEA verification mechanisms and conventions in the field of nuclear and physical safety.
On the same day, the Iranian Government informed the IAEA about another strike in the Bushehr NPP area. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, in turn, expressed deep concern about reports of military activity near the nuclear power plant.
On March 24, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the IAEA's response to threats to nuclear security in the Middle East was inadequate. According to him, what is happening in the Middle East poses a threat not only to regional, but also to global stability, including world trade, energy security and international transport links.
