James Tolkan was born on June 20, 1931 in Michigan. His career spanned more than 50 years. At the same time, Tolkan's first television work was in the 1960 TV series Naked City, and his last was in the 2015 film Bone Tomahawk.
The actor was known for playing Mr. Strickland in the Back to the Future trilogy, where he appeared in the original 1985 film, as well as in the 1989 and 1990 sequels. In addition, Tolkan played the role of Commander Tom Stinger Jardian in the movie "The Best Shooter", he also took part in the film "Top Gun".
