Sobyanin spoke about the modernization of Moscow theaters
The program of modernization of the capital's theaters will continue in 2026, the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, announced on his channel in the IACH.
The plans for the current year include further renovation of the Moscow Operetta Theater, the Oleg Tabakov Theater, the Mossovet Theater and the Moscow Academic Satire Theater (Armen Dzhigarkhanyan's Progress Stage).
According to Sobyanin, since 2013, the construction, reconstruction, restoration and major repairs of 105 buildings and premises of 42 Moscow theaters have been completed.
"Each reconstruction includes a comprehensive retrofitting of the theater with modern equipment. Directors and artists get qualitatively new opportunities to realize their creative plans," said the Mayor of Moscow.
The renovated institutions include the Moscow Musical Theater Helikon-Opera, the Taganka Theater, Sovremennik, the Moscow Variety Theater, the Moscow Oleg Tabakov Theater, the Moscow State Theater At the Nikitsky Gate, the Stanislavsky Electrotheater, and Pokrovka. Theater", Et Cetera, "Magic Lamp", "Vedogon Theater", "Russian Song", Theater on Bronnaya, "Gradsky Hall" (now the Center for Performing Arts on Dobryninskaya), Kuklachev's Theater of Cats, "Shadow" and others.
In 2025, repair and restoration work was completed in the Nikita Mikhalkov Workshop 12 building, as well as in the historical premises of the Oleg Tabakov Theater on Chaplygin Street.
In total, there are about 250 theaters in Moscow. Of these, 62 are subordinate to the Moscow Government, the rest belong to federal and private cultural institutions.
