Ballet legends shared their memories of working at the Bolshoi Theatre
People's Artist of Russia, Rector of the Russian Ballet Academy. Vaganova Nikolai Tsiskaridze and People's Artist of the Russian Federation, Acting Rector of MGAKH Svetlana Zakharova, in an interview with Izvestia, told about their work at the Bolshoi Theater.
Tsiskaridze was the premiere of the Bolshoi Theatre in the period from 1992 to 2013. According to the actor, he fell in love with him as a child.
"When I started serving there, I realized that this theater has the genius of the place, and it chooses its leaders. There were a lot of capable, good people around me, young, daring, and so on. But it so happened that my creative life became very rich in the sense that I had a huge number of roles, I worked with the greatest people who did not pay attention to those capable people who were next to me, but gave me time. You see, when your last name immediately reflects your profession and the place you serve, of course, only I am lucky, and I am incredibly happy about it," Tsiskaridze shared.
The prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Theater Svetlana Zakharova recalled her first appearance on the stage of the Bolshoi Theater.
"250 years of the Bolshoi Theatre. I have been working and serving in it for more than 20 years. And, of course, remembering my first appearance on the stage of the Bolshoi Theater, it was a huge eventful day for me," said the ballerina.
She noted that she came to the theater just before the building was closed for major repairs.
"It has its own special aura. there was energy, some kind of spirit was flying. Sometimes, you know, it even felt like in the evening, when the lights go out, when all the colleagues have already gone home after the performance, and you're the last one to leave, because the performance ends later, and while you're packing up, while you're resting, you go out and walk past the stage, and it was kind of creepy. Because there was a feeling that someone was present here, someone was always watching and watching you," recalls the artist.
Zakharova shared that when she went on stage, she was overcome by a state of joy, incredible fear, and awe.
The Bolshoi Theatre celebrates its 250th anniversary on March 28. In honor of the anniversary, Giuseppe Verdi's opera Othello, which was performed on the legendary stage more than 40 years ago, was returned to the stage for the audience. In just two and a half centuries, more than 800 performances have been staged in the country's main theater.
