"At the molecular level, melatonin runs everything. In cats, this hormone is produced in response to darkness, preparing the body for sleep. Light pollution (televisions, lamps, garlands) suppresses melatonin synthesis. The animal seems to be asleep, but does not fall into deep, restorative phases. This is fraught not only with a bad mood, but also with real disruptions in the immune and endocrine systems," Glamazdin explained in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».

According to him, the biological rhythms of cats are oriented towards a twilight lifestyle, since the greatest activity occurs at dawn and sunset, because daytime and nighttime are designed for rest. The use of bright light in the late hours can be perceived by the animal's body as a signal for activity, which leads to disruption of circadian rhythms, chronic lack of sleep and stress.

The expert noted that in order to maintain the health of the pet, it is necessary to create favorable conditions for sleeping: darkening the room at night, eliminating light sources in the recreation area, minimizing noise. Feeding and active games, he said, should be postponed to day or dusk.
