- The media reported on the relaxation of Euroclear rules for payments on frozen assets of the Russian Federation
The Belgian depository Euroclear has made allowances for payments related to frozen assets of the Russian Federation. This was reported by Bloomberg on March 26, citing an anonymous source.
"Euroclear Bank SA has relaxed the rules for payments related to frozen Russian assets," it follows from the material.
It clarifies that the depository allowed the execution of certain operations that benefit foreign investors who are not US citizens, without the need to obtain approval from the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Treasury.
On December 23, Deputy Finance Minister of Kazakhstan Dauren Kenbeil announced that Euroclear had unblocked more than $600 million of funds from the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), which were blocked as accounts of the Russian Federation. He also added that Kazakhstan expects to unlock another $120 million of these funds.
