Germany has proposed to the European Union (EU) to limit the recognition of Russian passports without biometrics in the EU. This was announced on March 27 by the Euractiv portal, citing sources.

"Germany supports the adoption of a coordinated EU position on the refusal to recognize Russian passports without biometric data. This step is presented as a measure to strengthen border control and eliminate loopholes," the publication says.

It is specified that this proposal was supported by the Czech Republic, Finland, Poland and Romania.

Der Spiegel magazine reported on March 14 that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the leaders of seven other European Union (EU) states demanded to study the possibility of a ban on entry into the Schengen area for participants in a special military operation (SVO). The appeal was signed by the leaders of Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Sweden.
