Political scientist Konstantin Blokhin explained why the Americans want to gain control over gas supplies to Europe for the United States.

In an interview with the News Mail on Friday, March 27, the expert noted that without gas supplies via Russian pipelines, Europe risks becoming dependent on the United States. He explained that in the absence of Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2, European countries have two main options: purchasing more expensive American LNG or supplies from the Middle East, where the situation is currently unstable.

Nord Streams has been a lifesaver for Europe, an indicator of sovereignty and independence. For the United States, gaining control over Nord Streams is a way to strengthen control over Europe," Blokhin stressed.

Earlier that day, in an interview with France TV, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the United States is seeking to establish control over the Nord Streams and strengthen its influence on the global energy market, writes RT. He also noted that the gas pipelines were blown up by Ukrainian saboteurs in 2022 with the support of Western intelligence services and noted that Western countries did not condemn this. 360.ru .

In addition, Lavrov pointed to the US interest in the Strait of Hormuz as a key oil supply route and recalled statements by US President Donald Trump about the impact on the transportation of hydrocarbons. At the same time, the minister stressed that Russia is not interested in rising energy prices and continues to fulfill export obligations.

On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the legal situation with Nord Streams difficult. According to him, it is obvious that the United States is seeking to take control of the international energy infrastructure.

Also on March 27, Igor Yushkov, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of Russia and the National Energy Security Fund, called the purchase of Sevpotoks unprofitable for the United States and Russia. In an interview with NSN, he noted that as a gas exporter, the United States is not interested in the operability of Russian pipelines. The expert noted that for private companies, the purchase of Russian gas infrastructure is associated with serious risks.: The United States imposed sanctions on Nord Stream 2 operator Nord Stream 2 AG, and Europe completely banned the supply of Russian energy resources.

Both lines of the Nord Stream and one line of the Nord Stream–2 were disrupted in September 2022 in the exclusive economic zones of Denmark and Sweden. According to Die Zeit, German investigators were considering the possibility of the involvement of a group of Ukrainians who used the yacht Andromeda, IA Regnum clarifies.
