Mishustin said there is a high demand for Russian AI models
Russian large language models are in demand among citizens because they "understand" their users, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said at the plenary session of the international digital forum Digital Qazaqstan 2026 in Shymkent (Kazakhstan). According to him, this is achieved through training on Russian-language datasets.
The Head of government explained that domestic models take into account the local context, the peculiarities of language and culture, as well as the specifics of the country and the region. As one example, he cited the voice assistant "Alice" and its generative model. "In terms of traffic, this service has successfully bypassed all foreign applications based on artificial intelligence available in Russia," Mishustin said.
The Prime Minister noted that Russian developers have created products that can be useful throughout the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). He suggested that the partners receive customized solutions, taking into account the national specifics of a particular state and with Russian engineering support.
In his speech, Mishustin referred to the position of the Russian president that not only the largest companies, but also the leading countries of the world compete for the possession of their own fundamental language models. At the same time, he stressed that Russian solutions are not just available, but also adapted to the needs of users.
In six years, the IT industry's contribution to GDP has doubled to 2.7%, and the volume of sales of Russian software products and services has exceeded 5 trillion rubles, the prime minister said. He stressed that this was made possible thanks to the systematic support of the state and the well-coordinated work of the business.
