SpaceX announced US plans to land a man on the moon by 2030
The United States plans to land humans on the moon's surface by 2030. This was announced on March 27 by SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell.
"I think we will land people on the surface [of the moon] before 2030," she said in an interview with Time.
The head of SpaceX emphasized that automated systems will play a key role in creating the infrastructure at the first stage.
"We'll probably have robots first to help set up production facilities, and then people will go live there," Shotwell explained.
She added that the company is taking active steps to achieve this goal, although "not always fast enough." The SpaceX president also shared her personal motivation, noting that she dreams of seeing the Earth from the surface of the moon.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has announced a review of the timing of the Artemis lunar program: the landing of American astronauts on the lunar surface is planned in 2028. The program includes an additional mission in 2027. It involves space tests of the rendezvous and docking of the manned Orion with commercial lunar modules of SpaceX and Blue Origin.
