Chinese experts were surprised by the technical solutions that were used in the Soviet upgraded Kalashnikov machine gun (PKM). Studying the design of weapons has completely changed the idea of engineers of the People's Republic of China (PRC) about shooting systems. This was reported on March 24 by the Sohu publication.

"When they were sent to the Russian Institute of Small Arms for disassembly, experienced experts were immediately shocked. The origin of this machine gun is extraordinary, and its appearance has completely changed the direction of development of Chinese small arms," the publication says.

Experts paid special attention to the weight of the product. The PCM with a 100-cartridge belt weighs about 12 kg, which is twice as light as the Chinese Type 67 counterpart, which weighs 24 kg.

"In southern Xinjiang, in karst mountains and muddy rainforests, an extra 10 pounds of machine guns can completely immobilize already physically exhausted machine gunners," the newspaper explained.

Based on Soviet technology, Chinese engineers had previously created the Type 80 machine gun, which was superior to the outdated Type 67. However, as Sohu notes, the new model did not go into mass production due to the high cost of industrial line changeover.

On the same day, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council (SB), announced that the Russian Federation had been able to achieve high production rates of various types of weapons and military equipment. Commenting on the implementation of the State Defense Order (GOZ), he noted that the process is proceeding smoothly.
