- A court has sentenced a politician accused of murdering a cameraman to 11 years in prison in absentia.
A Moscow court has sentenced 33—year-old Armen Sargsyan, accused of murdering cameraman Sergei Politika, to 11 years in a high—security penal colony. This was announced on March 27 by the Moscow prosecutor's office.
"Sargsyan disappeared after committing the crime. A preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen for him in absentia. The criminal case was considered by the court in the absence of the defendant, who is wanted," the department's Telegram channel says.
The murder occurred on the evening of October 18, 2025. At the entrance of the house on Stalevarov Street, Sargsyan suddenly entered into a domestic conflict, during which he stabbed a man he did not know with a knife, inflicting a penetrating stab wound in the chest area. The victim turned out to be director and cameraman Sergei Politik. He was admitted to the hospital, where the man died.
In October last year, Izvestia published footage of the incident. They show how the Politician sprayed the attacker with a canister, who, in turn, attacked the director with a knife.
Sargsyan was named as the alleged murderer at that time. The suspect was charged in absentia and put on the wanted list. Later, a court in Moscow also arrested the accused in absentia.
