The Indian Ministry of Defense announced on Friday, March 27, that it had approved the purchase of additional Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems.
"The government has approved defense projects worth 2.38 trillion rupees (about $25 billion), including aircraft, S—400 complexes and attack drones," the agency reports India Today.
It is noted that the approval concerned the supply of a wide range of weapons for the Indian army, air Force and Coast Guard. The number of projects and contracts signed in 2026 reached record levels.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said at the international conference "Russia and India: Towards a New Agenda for Bilateral Relations" on March 23 that India and other countries are actively considering the possibility of increasing purchases of Russian oil. On the same day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke about the planned visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Russia in 2026.
