There have been 182 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past day, 182 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which nine people were killed and 236 injured. Eight of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on March 27 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
13 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and 13 more road users needed medical help. Nine bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.
As a result of 61 accidents, 25 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 36 outside their area of operation, one pedestrian was killed, 63 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 14 underage pedestrians, six of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas.
There were also 23 accidents involving minors, in which 28 young road users were injured, including 13 passengers and one motor vehicle driver. There are no dead children.
On the eve of the weekend and the upcoming spring school holidays in schools with a quarter-time education system, the State Traffic Inspectorate urged drivers to strictly observe traffic regulations and be more careful on the roads of settlements and cities. Special care should be taken when approaching pedestrian crossings, slowing down in front of them until they come to a complete stop in order to allow pedestrians crossing the roadway. When stopping in front of an adjustable pedestrian crosswalk, you should not rush to start moving even when the traffic light allows you to do so. First, you need to make sure that the crossing is completely free of pedestrian traffic. The behavior of children and elderly pedestrians on the road is often unpredictable, so at any moment you need to be prepared to respond adequately to a sudden change in the traffic situation.
Parents of underage road users were reminded of the need to be more attentive to their children, trying to ensure maximum safety for them and, if possible, personally accompany them to educational or sports activities on weekends and school holidays.
"It is important to have an explanatory conversation with them about the rules of safe passage through the roadway, emphasizing the need to exclude telephone conversations, listening to music in headphones, chatting on the go in Internet chats and other distracting factors for pedestrians. In addition, you should start moving along a regulated pedestrian crosswalk only at a traffic light signal that allows this action and only after making sure that vehicles that allow pedestrians to pass completely stop," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Even a short absence or the slightest negligence of parental control over the behavior and leisure of children often leads to injury or death of young road users, the department said. Since the beginning of March, 793 accidents involving minors under the age of 16 have occurred on Russian roads, killing 13 and injuring 867 children and teenagers.
The day before, it was reported that the State Duma rejected a bill that proposed to introduce a separate criminal article for intentionally creating an accident in order to extort money (auto insurance).
