Employees of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Astrakhan region have detained the head of a sports organization suspected of financing extremists. This was announced on March 27 by the press service of the department.

"It has been established that the man is a supporter of an extremist organization (banned in the territory of the Russian Federation), and made six money transfers to bank accounts opened by the specified non-profit organization in a foreign bank through his checking account via an online resource," TASS reports.

The case was initiated under the article on the provision of funds for the purpose of ensuring the activities of an extremist organization. The suspect admitted his guilt. The court chose a preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave and proper behavior.

The press service of the Prosecutor's office of the Trans-Baikal Territory reported on March 26 that the man was sentenced to nine years in prison for financing a terrorist organization. It is specified that the crime was discovered by employees of the local Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia in 2026, after which the accused was taken into custody. He was found guilty under Part 1.1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Financing of terrorism").
