The dog handler gave advice on how to prepare the dog for the summer season
In order for the holiday season to be calm and safe, it is important to prepare your pet in advance and take into account a number of nuances. Yulia Soltan, a cynologist and expert of the Triol brand, told Izvestia about this on March 29.
First of all, the expert advises to pay attention to the animal's health. Before traveling, it is necessary to make sure that all vaccinations are available, as well as to carry out treatment against external and internal parasites. This is especially true outside the city, where the risk of encountering ticks is higher. It is recommended to coordinate all procedures with a veterinarian.
"Pet care is equally important. Before leaving, you should trim your claws, comb out your hair and get rid of tangles. Regular grooming affects not only the appearance, but also the well—being of a dog — for example, it helps it to tolerate heat more easily and reduces the risk of overheating," Soltan said.
If the animal is hard on the road, it should be accustomed to travel in advance. The expert recommends starting by adapting to the sounds of the car, then gradually moving on to short trips. At the same time, it is important to ensure safety — use carriers or special clamps, and also do not feed your pet a few hours before departure if he gets seasick.
Special attention should be paid to the basic commands. The "to me" command must be executed flawlessly, especially if the dog is going to be released from the leash. In an unfamiliar environment, this is directly related to the safety of the animal.
Upon arrival at the cottage, the dog handler advises to inspect the site: remove sharp objects, check the fence for cracks and make sure that there is no hazardous waste on the territory. It is also recommended to hang an addressee with the owner's contacts on the collar.
To facilitate the adaptation, it is worth taking things familiar to the dog with you — a couch, a blanket or a favorite toy. In addition, it is important not to forget the ammunition, treats and first-aid kit, compiled jointly with the veterinarian.
In hot weather, special attention should be paid to the condition of the pet. It is better to move active games to the morning and evening hours, and provide access to water and shade during the day. The expert also recommends using cooling toys and not allowing the dog to drink from open reservoirs.
In addition, Soltan warned owners against feeding pets with "country" food. Shish kebab, bread and other foods from the table can cause digestive problems, so it's better to stick to a regular diet.
On March 13, Vladimir Golubev, President of the Russian Cynological Federation, told Izvestia that the main threat to dogs in the spring is pyroplasmosis. As the expert noted, owners should carefully monitor the dog's condition after walks. If a tick is found, it is necessary to carefully pull it out with tweezers.
