GOST for ballpoint pens will be introduced in Russia

Rosstandart has adopted a new GOST for ballpoint pens, which will enter into force in September 2026. RIA Novosti reviewed the relevant document on March 27.

"For the first time, the standard establishes requirements for materials and structures, introduces product classification, and describes test methods, labeling and packaging rules," said a representative of the supervisory authority.

According to the new standard, the components of writing accessories must be made of corrosion-resistant metals, as well as have a protective and decorative coating. All materials used in the construction must be safe for human health and must not collapse when falling on a wooden surface from a height of 1 m.

In addition, according to the new regulations, the pen must leave a mark on the paper from the first touch of the paper without pressure — even if it was left uncapped for three hours. Also, a pen with a rod over 3 mm in diameter should produce a continuous line without blotches of at least 400 m, and thin samples of at least 200 m.

The document will strengthen quality control from raw materials to bottles.

On March 20, Rosstandart for the first time approved GOST for special footwear for medical workers, which includes among the new requirements the maximum allowable height. Products may have an upper made of leather or textile materials, while the norms do not apply to shoes made of rubber and polymers.
