Russia and Sri Lanka discussed cooperation in the energy sector
Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Roman Marshavin met with the leadership of Sri Lanka, during the talks the parties discussed the possibilities of developing bilateral cooperation in the fuel and energy complex (fuel and energy complex). This was announced on March 26 by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Energy.
"During the negotiations, the possibilities of increasing the volume of energy supplies to the republic were discussed. They also discussed attracting Russian companies to participate in investment projects in Sri Lanka," the Telegram channel said.
According to the press service, during the negotiations, cooperation on personnel training for the fuel and energy sector, as well as issues of achieving technological independence, were discussed. The Russian delegation expressed its readiness to facilitate the training of Sri Lankan specialists at large domestic energy companies and expressed interest in sharing experience in the field of digital solutions and cybersecurity in the fuel and energy sector.
Marshavin noted that the Russian Federation sees Sri Lanka as a promising partner with positive dynamics of strengthening relations.
In addition, during the visit, the Deputy Minister of Energy held talks with the Minister of Energy of Sri Lanka Kumar Jayakody, the Minister of Labor and Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Sri Lanka Anil Jayanta and the head of the Central Bank of the country Nandalal Weerasinghe.
Nalinda Jayatissa, a representative of the Cabinet of Ministers of the island state, announced on March 24 that Sri Lanka had begun negotiations at the government level with Russia on possible oil exports from that country. At the same time, Mikhail Rogov, a spokesman for the Russian diplomatic mission, noted that the start of negotiations on oil supplies from Russia to Sri Lanka is scheduled for March 26 in Colombo.
Rogov reported on March 13 that the Sri Lankan authorities had asked the Russian Federation to consider the possibility of supplying them with energy resources. The petition of the representatives of the island state was submitted to Moscow for consideration.
