Protesters gathered outside the courthouse in New York during the Maduro trial.
Two camps of protesters gathered outside the courthouse in New York, where the trial of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who was captured by the United States, is taking place today. The relevant footage is published by Izvestia on March 26.
It is clarified that one camp is in favor of the release of the Venezuelan leader, the other for his long imprisonment.
Journalist Evgenia Vlasova told Izvestia that the lawyers of the captured Venezuelan president intend to petition for the dismissal of all charges. Their main argument is related to the inability to pay for legal services.
On February 12, the authorized President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, declared the innocence of Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores. Rodriguez stressed that she is acting as the head of state, in accordance with the Constitution of Venezuela, and called this work very, very hard. The politician also added that she had received an invitation to visit the United States.
In January, after Maduro's detention, the U.S. Department of Justice also announced charges not only against the politician and his wife, but also against their son, Nicolas Ernesto Maduro Guerra. According to the US Department of Justice, the Venezuelan leadership and his inner circle allegedly built a system of large-scale corruption directly related to drug trafficking.
