I am pleased that Iran considers Russia a friendly country, said Vladimir Jabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, on Thursday, March 26, reacting to Tehran's permission for Russian vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

He noted that Russia itself is a supplier of oil to the world market, and does not use what is produced in Iran and other Persian Gulf countries.

"On the other hand, it's nice that Iran considers us a friendly country. We also believe that Iran is a friendly power to us," the senator said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

Jabarov added that Russia does not send many ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

"Of course, there are other cargoes that we take in Iran and Saudi Arabia. Nevertheless, if we talk about energy resources, it is not fundamental for us," he concluded.

Earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that Tehran had allowed ships from friendly countries, including Russia, China, India, Iraq and Pakistan, to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, according to the website. kp.ru . In addition, the Iranian Foreign Minister added that Tehran sees no reason to allow ships from enemy states to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, Regnum news agency reports.

On March 14, US President Donald Trump appealed to states that depend on oil supplied through the Strait of Hormuz to ensure the safety of this transport route.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on March 24 that the European Union was considering sending its ships to the Strait of Hormuz only after the completion of the US and Israeli military operation against Iran. She also noted that the consequences of the conflict are already having a serious impact on the energy sector.
