Analysts have recorded X5's leadership in all segments of grocery retail

X5 retailer has confirmed its status as the leader of the Russian retail market by the end of 2025. In addition to its traditional leadership in the convenience stores and supermarkets segments, the company has significantly strengthened its position in other business areas: online sales, the segment of hard discounters and franchising. This follows from the company's press release and data from INFOLine analysts.

Mikhail Burmistrov, CEO of INFOLine Analytics, noted that the company has demonstrated growth through effective work with target segments.

"X5 confirmed its leadership in the retail market in 2025 and strengthened its position due to faster organic growth rates, an effective omnichannel business development model, as well as a focus on target market segments with high potential: hard discounters (Chizhik became the leader in the segment in 2025, achieving the following indicators: revenue growth by 67% up to 417.5 billion rubles, an increase in the number of customers by 50.4%), as well as online sales. X5's share in the total structure of retail food sales increased from 15.6% to 16.6%, and in the online food sales market - from 16.1% to 18.6%," he said.

In the e-grocery segment, the company's total merchandise turnover (GMV) reached 323.7 billion rubles. According to the INFOLine agency, this allowed the retailer to occupy 18.6% of the market. Express delivery at the end of the year was carried out from more than 9,5 thousand stores in 75 regions of Russia. One of the technological achievements was the launch of a pilot robotic darkstore.

"X5's leadership in the e-grocery segment by the end of 2025 is the result of systematic and long—term work. Throughout the year, we have consistently scaled our digital business, while increasing operational efficiency, the reliability of the technology platform and the quality of customer experience," commented Sergey Pankov, Managing Director of X5 Digital.

In addition to its success in the digital sector and the segment of hard discounters, where the Chizhik network holds the lead, the company has also taken a leading position in the franchise market. The About brand, which develops a partner network of small stores, became the first among franchise chains by the end of the year. The retail revenue of the stores reached 66 billion rubles, which is 7.8 times higher than in the previous year. The number of retail outlets in the network has increased fourfold in 2025.
