Gastroenterologist warned about the consequences of eating spicy honey
The combination of honey and pepper can worsen dyspepsia and cause other disorders in people with sensitive digestive tracts. Andrey Simakov, a gastroenterologist and specialist in neurogastroenterology, told Izvestia on March 26.
According to the doctor, honey is often perceived as a product with medicinal properties, but this is not entirely true. This is a fructose concentrate, which causes allergies in many people due to the protein structures contained in it, the expert explained. Therefore, products need to be selected individually, especially for those who are prone to allergic reactions.
"The combination of spicy and honey is made in order to achieve new organoleptic properties, that is, to obtain exactly some taste moments," the expert noted.
However, it is important to remember that acuity should not cause discomfort or dyspeptic disorders. For people with dyspepsia or functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, this can affect intestinal motility, increase the sensitivity of the stomach walls and cause unpleasant symptoms such as diarrhea.
As for spicy foods such as pepper, for most people suffering from gastroesophageal reflux disease or irritable bowel syndrome, acuity can trigger heartburn and abdominal pain. But it should be borne in mind that such reactions depend on individual sensitivity, the doctor concluded.
Olga Tarasova, PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of Hospital Pediatrics No. 2 at the Institute of Motherhood and Childhood at Pirogov University, said on March 23 that there was no direct link between chronic gastritis and stomach cancer. The doctor clarified that the path from gastritis to cancer takes several decades. In addition, after the destruction of the helicobacter bacterium, the risk of developing a malignant neoplasm is almost zero, Tarasova emphasized.
