There have been 197 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.

Over the past day, 197 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 20 people were killed and 240 injured. 15 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on March 26 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

10 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which two people were killed, and 11 more road users needed medical help. Eight bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

As a result of 65 accidents, 23 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 42 outside their area of operation, five pedestrians were killed, and 62 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 13 underage pedestrians, 10 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas.

There were also 22 accidents involving minors, in which 25 young road users, including 10 passengers, were injured. There are no dead children.

In addition, temporary traffic closures continue in some regions of the country due to the onset of spring floods. So, in the Lipetsk region, as a result of flooding a few days ago, sections of five regional highways were flooded, which is why traffic is now temporarily suspended on them.

When planning long-distance trips, the State Traffic Inspectorate recommends that motorists first familiarize themselves with the weather forecast and media information about possible overlap sites, outlining detours in advance. If traffic restrictions are imposed or road sections are closed due to worsening weather or a dangerous flood situation, the right decision would be to temporarily refrain from long trips, postponing them to a later date until favorable weather conditions occur, the department noted.

"We also draw the attention of drivers to the fact that during the increasingly confident entry of spring into their rights and the ongoing change of seasons, one should be extremely careful when driving a vehicle on a slippery road from rain, snow or ice. Refrain from sudden thoughtless maneuvers and realignments, exclude entering the oncoming traffic lane even in the places allowed for this, observe the interval and distance, and choose the speed limit taking into account the weather conditions," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and prevention of child traffic injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

Before a trip of any length, the State Traffic Inspectorate called for checking the technical condition of the car so that the vehicle would not fail on the way due to an unforeseen breakdown.
