St. Petersburg will once again use the neural network to fight hogweed

Sosnovsky's hogweed in St. Petersburg will be controlled again with the help of AI. The function of detecting this weed will be included in eight neural network complexes of the "City".

The press service of the GATI clarified that the equipment is able to recognize a dangerous plant at all stages of its growth and promptly fix violations.

So, in 2025, AI helped identify nine areas with thickets of hogweed. The total amount of fines collected from land owners amounted to more than 800 thousand rubles.

Sosnovsky hogweed is a plant that is actively and rapidly spreading across different regions, becoming a real threat to both nature and humans. Contact with its juice in combination with sunlight causes severe photochemical burns.

As noted by 78.ru hogweed is very difficult to eliminate, as it shoots in early spring, 7-10 days ahead of other species. The owners of the plots have already been called upon to inspect their territories and remove the weed at the initial stage of growth.
