Two of the three attackers on Izvestia correspondent Poltoranin were convicted.
Two of the three men who beat Izvestia correspondent Alexei Poltoranin had previous convictions. As part of the investigation of the criminal case, confrontations took place all night on March 26.
The eldest among the attackers is Pavel Poghosyan, a businessman and the main "seller" of the company. He is the one who searches for clients online and makes appointments. His brother-in-law, Artur Davydov, was previously convicted of abuse of power. The third participant in the ruthless attack is Alexander Fomin, nicknamed Thomas, who had previously been tried for beatings. Now all three of them are facing a new article, and perhaps more than one.
"The complex of actions that they committed against the journalist falls under the definition of several articles of the criminal code at once, and together they can get quite a real term," said lawyer Evgeny Petrovich.
Investigators conducted interrogations and confrontations, during which one of the suspects apologized.
"One of the suspects has indeed apologized. I can't talk about any sincerity in his eyes, because then they were grinning while they were there," the journalist said.
Poghosyan was already the hero of the investigation in September 2025. Back then, he confidently promised to get any number and behaved as if he could get away with anything, as if there was someone behind his back who was covering for him. As experts say, such schemes simply do not work without support.
"They are used to the fact that at the local level, local authorities always cover for them, they are allowed to do everything," added Pavel Zaitsev, a former senior investigator for particularly important cases of the Investigative Committee under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
On March 25, employees of a company illegally selling "beautiful" license plates for cars attacked Alexey Poltoranin, a correspondent for Izvestia, who was investigating the company's activities. He came to the company's office under the guise of a buyer in order to find out details about the schemes for selling government numbers. The company's employees suspected that Poltoranin was a journalist, surrounded and attacked him. The men took the phone from him and punched him several times in the stomach.
The next day, Kirill Olkov, a correspondent for Izvestia, said that investigators had begun questioning Pavel Poghosyan, an employee of the company who had brutally beaten Poltoranin. Subsequently, Poltoranin announced the beginning of a confrontation between him and three suspects in the case of a brutal beating. After completing the procedure, all the defendants in the case were taken out of the building of the Investigative Committee of Russia and taken to an isolation ward.
