Moscow is one of the world leaders in the field of organ transplantation: in 2025 alone, more than 800 such operations were performed. This was reported on the portal on March 24. mos.ru .

"I once operated on a young athlete: he had cirrhosis of the liver. They couldn't help in foreign hospitals. When he came to us, his liver had already failed. We performed the operation, and 15 years have passed since then. The man got married and became a father. He continues to play sports. Such stories inspire us, doctors," Mogeli Khubutia, president of the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine and Moscow's chief freelance transplant specialist, is quoted in the article.

It is noted that as a result of the development of the Moscow transplant service in all areas, the number of organ transplants in Russia has doubled over the past five years.

In addition, residents of Moscow will receive treatment much faster than in foreign cities. According to the portal, it takes about five months to wait for a donated liver, and no more than a year for a kidney. Meanwhile, waiting in line abroad can take up to five years.

The mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, announced on February 19 that the volume of transplant operations in the capital has more than doubled over the past five years — 859 such manipulations were carried out last year, and 428 in 2020. He called such a pace of development of the industry the result of "a huge comprehensive work on the development of urban medicine."
