State Duma Deputy Novikov spoke about the visit of the Russian parliamentary delegation to the United States

The Russian parliamentary delegation held a meeting with politicians in the United States in order to normalize bilateral relations. This was announced on March 25 by Dmitry Novikov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma for International Affairs, in an interview with Izvestia.

"The negotiations of the delegation that is currently in the United States are not a format for negotiations between the two parliaments. Nevertheless, this is a visit of a different level, and the inviting, receiving side, having regard to the relevant parliamentary status in the United States, primarily represents those political forces in their country that are interested in normalizing bilateral relations," he said.

According to Novikov, this meeting is rather a trial. It will help identify ways to resolve the complex relationship between Russia and the United States.

"This is our Russian response to the initiative of a group of American parliamentarians who aim to improve relations between our countries. We also proceed from the fact that controversial and complex issues can be sought at the negotiating table, rather than clarifying relations by armed means or through sanctions, various kinds of political and economic pressure," the parliamentarian added.

In addition, Novikov added that waiting for the meeting is the debugging of communication channels that will help the development of national, parliamentary and state diplomacy.
