The Russian Navy ensures the safety of navigation, in particular ships carrying cargo in the interests of the Russian Federation. This was announced on March 25 by Nikolai Patrushev, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Maritime Board.

"The Navy ensures the safety of navigation according to the object and zonal principles. Control over vessels carrying out cargo transportation in the interests of our country has been strengthened," he said at a board meeting.

In addition, port captains can request the escort of Russian ships by mobile firing groups, Patrushev said.

The Chairman of the Maritime Board also announced the creation of instructions on the operational communication of shipowners and ship operators with the port administration and the Navy. The Board also took measures to promptly inform about illegal actions against the merchant fleet of the Russian Federation, Patrushev assured.

Patrushev said on February 17 that Russia was developing a set of measures to respond to Western seizures of ships in international waters. According to him, if Russia does not give a "tough rebuff", then soon Western countries will try to completely block Russia's access to the seas in the Atlantic basin.

Later, on March 18, he stressed that the Russian Federation was implementing a set of measures to ensure the safety of navigation. According to the chairman of the Maritime Board, diplomatic solutions are not enough to counter the campaign against Russian ships.
