Likhachev announced that the safety of the Bushehr NPP had lost its red line status.
The safety of the Iranian Bushehr nuclear power plant has ceased to be a red line for the parties to the conflict in the Middle East. The head of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, told reporters on March 25.
According to him, the day before at 21:00 Moscow time, an arrival was recorded in the area of the pumping station, which is a critical element of the facility's security infrastructure.
"There are no serious violations or damage, but this is a signal that the red lines are shifting," Likhachev said, RIA Novosti reports.
He stressed that the attack on a significant part of the station's infrastructure demonstrates the lack of inviolability of the nuclear facility for the parties to the confrontation.
On the same day, Likhachev announced that Rosatom was temporarily reducing the number of its specialists at the Bushehr NPP to a minimum. He noted that the situation at the station is developing according to a negative scenario. The day before, a decision was made on the third stage of staff evacuation. Later, 163 people were evacuated from the nuclear power plant.
On March 24, the Iranian government informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about a shell hitting the Bushehr NPP building. According to the IAEA, the station was not damaged, and no personnel were injured. On March 24, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the IAEA's response to threats to nuclear security in the Middle East was inadequate.
