Orban pointed to the inevitable return of Europe to Russian energy resources
Europe will sooner or later be forced to resume purchases of Russian energy resources. This was announced on March 25 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
According to him, the situation is complicated only by the uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
"Sooner or later they (the European leaders. — Ed.) will be forced to return to Russia [to buy energy resources]," the prime minister said in an interview with blogger Mario Naufalu, published on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
Orban explained that abandoning a key energy source with a high dependence on imported resources is a mistake.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, commenting on Europe's abrupt rejection of Russian energy supplies, called this decision painful on March 24. She pointed to the recorded increase in fuel prices, and also added that her colleagues, "who have learned a lesson from everything that is happening," are rethinking their dependence on gas from the Russian Federation.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on March 20 that by rejecting Russian gas, EU states "continue to shoot their voters in the foot." Now, as he added, Moscow will first of all focus on alternative markets that are "more attractive" to itself.
