The Russian Foreign Ministry allowed calls for negotiations on Iran to regroup
Another round of calls for negotiations against Iran can be used to regroup the forces attacking Tehran. This was announced on March 25 by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova.
"Tehran did its part of the work in good faith, but as it turned out, Washington used the negotiations as a cover. The very fact that diplomatic negotiations were used precisely to cover up preparations for war is an outright discredit of diplomacy. <...> It is possible that a new round of negotiations is aimed at creating some more favorable conditions for regrouping forces," she said.
Zakharova added that Russia's principled position remains unchanged — Moscow considers a diplomatic settlement to be the only sure way out of the conflict that is gaining momentum.
The Axios portal reported on March 25 that the Iranian leadership considers the US proposal for negotiations to be a trick and is afraid of being deceived. According to the newspaper, the Iranian representatives expressed their doubts to the mediators from Pakistan, Egypt and Turkey.
On March 24, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic to Russia denied information about negotiations between Washington and Tehran. According to him, the American and Iranian sides did not hold talks during the military operation of the United States and Israel in Iran.
