Peter Jackson and Stephen Colbert announce new "Lord of the Rings" movie
Peter Jackson and Stephen Colbert have announced a new movie based on the Lord of the Rings universe. This was announced on March 25 by the Warner Bros. studio. in the social network X (ex. Twitter).
"You know what these books mean to me, and what your films mean to me. But what I've read over and over again are the six chapters at the beginning of ["The Fellowship of the Ring"] that you never turned into the first movie at the time. This is, in fact, the head of the Troy Company and the Fog on Barrow Downs. And I thought, "Oh, wait, maybe this will be a separate story that fits into a larger story. Can we do something that is completely true to the books, but at the same time completely true to the films that you have already made?" said Colbert in an announcement video posted on the Warner Bros. account.
In the video, Jackson also announced the project "The Hunt for Gollum" directed by Andy Serkis, which will be released in 2027. After that, he introduced his "special partner" Colbert, with whom he and screenwriter Philippa Boyens have been working on the script for the new film "The Lord of the Rings: Shadows of the Past" for the last two years.
According to the official synopsis, the action takes place 14 years after Frodo's death. Sam, Merry and Pippin set off to return to the first stages of their adventure, while Sam's daughter Elanor tries to uncover a long-standing secret that almost led to defeat in the War of the Ring.
The script is being written by Colbert, his son Peter McGee (known for his work on "Star Wars" and "Outer Banks") and Philippa Boyens, Jackson's longtime collaborator on the "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" trilogies. Colbert previously starred in a cameo role in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
Jackson's original films were released in 2001-2003 and won 17 Oscars.
The organizers of the Cannes Film Festival announced on March 5 that New Zealand director Peter Jackson will receive the honorary Palme d'Or at the 79th Cannes Film Festival for his contribution to the development of cinema. The president of the festival, Iris Knobloch, said that she was pleased to welcome and thank the director of boundless creativity, who brought prestige to the genre of heroic fantasy.
