Iran has sent the United States, through intermediaries, a list of requirements for de-escalation of the conflict. The key point is the complete closure of all US military bases in the Persian Gulf area. This was reported on March 25 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources.

It is noted that Tehran also insists on establishing a "new order" in the Strait of Hormuz, which will allow Iran to charge fees from passing ships by analogy with the Suez Canal.

The list of demands also includes the complete lifting of all anti-Iranian sanctions, US guarantees of non-resumption of hostilities, and an end to Israeli strikes against the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon, the WSJ writes.

According to the publication, the United States has already characterized these requests as unrealistic. There is a belief in the White House and among Arab diplomats that reaching a compromise has become much more difficult, the newspaper said.

US President Donald Trump announced on March 23 that the US military would temporarily suspend strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure amid talks between Washington and Tehran. He also said that the United States and Iran had held two days of fruitful negotiations to resolve the conflict.

On the same day, the Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly denied the information about the alleged negotiations. According to the ministry, peace initiatives come only from the countries of the Middle East, and the statements of the American leader are an attempt to "buy time" for a military operation.
