Over the past day, 197 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 22 people were killed and 230 injured. 14 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on March 25 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

So, in the Leningrad region, on 117 km of the federal highway A-120 "St. Petersburg Southern Half Ring" in the daytime, a 65-year-old truck driver drove into the oncoming lane of the road due to a rupture of the front left wheel, where he collided with another truck and a passenger car. The second truck with a semi-trailer overturned after the collision. A 66-year-old passenger car driver was killed in the accident, and the 45-year-old driver of the overturned truck was hospitalized with injuries. Traffic on the section of road where the car accident occurred was temporarily stopped for several hours in both directions until the consequences of the accident were eliminated, during which time traffic police officers organized a detour.

15 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, but 24 road users needed medical attention. 12 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

As a result of 73 accidents, 34 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 39 outside their area of operation, eight pedestrians were killed, and 69 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 14 underage pedestrians, 11 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in designated areas, which means that it was the fault of drivers or their own inattention, the ministry stressed.

There were also 22 accidents involving minors, in which 22 young road users were injured, including seven passengers and two motor vehicle drivers. There are no dead children.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urged motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations on the roads of settlements and cities. People driving should take special care when approaching pedestrian crossings, slowing down in front of them until they come to a complete stop in order to allow pedestrians crossing the roadway. The behavior of children on the road is often unpredictable, so drivers should always be extremely collected when passing intersections and pedestrian crossings in order to have time to respond adequately to a possible sudden change in the traffic situation at any moment. It is important not to rush to resume traffic even when the traffic light is clear — make sure that the crossing is completely free of pedestrians.

"We also draw the attention of drivers to the need to check the technical condition of the vehicle before a trip of any duration. Before checking out, check the tire pressure, fluid level, fuel tank fullness, operation of lights and windscreen wipers. Remember that not only your life and health, but also the lives and health of other road users depend on your skills, driving experience, well—being, law-abiding driving behavior, as well as the serviceable technical condition of the car," said the head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and prevention of child traffic injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich.

Earlier that day, it was reported that cars without a valid CTP policy could be automatically fixed using traffic cameras in the fall of 2026.
