Pamfilova announced the CEC's intention to keep paper ballots in the elections.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) is not going to abandon the use of traditional paper ballots in elections, despite the development of remote electronic voting (DEG). This was announced on March 25 by the head of the Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova.
She noted that DEG, as an additional type of voting, is increasingly developing and gaining popularity among voters.
"But I want to emphasize once again: no one is going to introduce DEG instead. It will be developed along with traditional voting at polling stations so that people have more choices," Pamfilova said.
According to her, over the past five years, the electoral system in Russia has become more convenient for people, and positive changes have appeared in it.
On March 20, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree appointing five members of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation. As it became known from the document, Igor Borisov, Natalia Budarina, Anton Lopatin, Ella Pamfilova and Anatoly Sysoev joined the new commission. All of them have experience working in the electoral system. Pamfilova, who headed the CEC since 2016, retained the status of a member of the commission.
On March 18, Pamfilova announced the right of 19 parties to participate in elections at various levels in the Russian Federation. She noted that these parties will have to work at different levels in the upcoming election campaign. In February, the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation announced the approximate date of voting in the elections of deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. So, the elections are scheduled to be held on September 20, 2026.
