The condition of the hair directly depends not only on proper care, but also on the general lifestyle. Trichologist Yulia Gallyamova, an expert in the field of hair health, told Izvestia on March 27 which habits can disrupt their health and lead to various problems.
According to her, one of the key causes of hair deterioration is poor nutrition. A lack of important elements such as iron and protein can make hair weak and thin, as well as cause hair loss. This is especially important for those who do not follow the balance of their diet.
Wearing tight hairstyles is another common habit that can lead to hair damage. Tight tails, bunches or African pigtails create excessive tension on the hair, which eventually damages the hair follicles and can cause traction alopecia. This is especially true for children, as their scalp is more vulnerable to damage.
"Many people underestimate the importance of regular combing. Meanwhile, this is not just a grooming procedure, but a kind of scalp massage. Regular combing improves blood microcirculation, which means that the hair follicles are nourished. This contributes to a more active growth and improvement of hair quality," the expert noted.
Another mistake, as noted by Gallyamova, is the refusal to cut the ends of the hair. If you do not remove the split ends, the damage will spread along the length, which will lead to brittleness and loss of a well-groomed appearance. Regular haircuts help to keep your hair healthy and thick.
Washing your hair infrequently can also have an impact on their health. Remnants of styling products, sebum and impurities that accumulate on the scalp can cause inflammation and worsen the condition of the follicles. Overuse of dry shampoos can also be harmful. These products do not cleanse the scalp, but only absorb sebum, creating a film that prevents the skin from breathing normally and can contribute to hair loss.
"The habit of sleeping in curlers negatively affects both directions at once. Firstly, the quality of sleep is disrupted, which in itself affects the state of the body. Secondly, there is a constant mechanical tension of the hair, which can injure the follicles and weaken the roots," the trichologist added.
Finally, the habit of touching your hair frequently or twisting it around your fingers can damage the hair roots and weaken the follicles, leading to their loss. In order to maintain healthy hair, according to the trichologist, it is necessary not only to take proper care of them, but also to monitor their lifestyle. A balanced diet, careful treatment of hair, regular combing and attention to the condition of the scalp are the main factors that will ensure the strength and health of your hair for many years to come.
