Dentist warned about hidden symptoms of serious dental problems

Even minor sensations in the oral cavity can signal serious health problems. Tamara Kudzieva, chief physician, dentist, therapist and periodontist at Attribute Group, told Izvestia on March 26 that there were subtle changes in her mouth that could indicate a big problem.

"Patients often come complaining of a slight reaction of their teeth to cold or hot food and are surprised that incipient caries is hidden behind this. The insidiousness of such symptoms is that they develop gradually and do not cause acute pain," the specialist noted.

Among other alarming but underestimated signs, the doctor named clicks or crunching in the temporomandibular joint when opening the mouth, morning pain in the jaw, as well as snoring, which may indicate problems with the respiratory tract and the condition of the oral tissues.

"Clicks and crunches in the joint should not be ignored: this may be a sign of Bruxism or its dysfunction. Without treatment, such conditions can progress," Kudzieva explained.

The dentist paid special attention to morning pain in the jaw, which is often associated with nighttime teeth clenching or gnashing. If you do not pay attention to this in time, joint problems, muscle pain may develop, and teeth will begin to wear out prematurely.

The doctor recommended not to postpone the visit to the dentist if such symptoms appear. It is better to check the condition of teeth and joints in a timely manner than to treat already neglected diseases.
