Companies from unfriendly countries lost more than $610 billion in Russia
In 2022-2025, companies from unfriendly countries lost more than $610 billion in revenue and at least $16 billion in net profit in Russia. Such data follows from the calculations of the IP Vedomosti, published on March 25.
"If in 2021 they earned over $280 billion in Russia, then in the next four years they earned an average of $153 billion less annually," the publication says.
American firms left Russia more often than others — 38% continue to work. European companies with a higher level of investment remained in 48% of cases. The highest proportion of those who left is among firms in Ireland (13% of those who remained), Finland (19%), Norway (22%) and Sweden (25%). More than 70% of companies from Greece, Slovenia, Slovakia, Hungary and Italy continued to operate in Russia.
It clarifies that the largest revenue losses were incurred by the automotive industry ($ 215 billion), the consumer market ($115 billion) and electronics manufacturers ($94 billion). The financial sector lost over $28 billion, while IT and telecom lost $21 billion. At the same time, businesses from friendly countries doubled their assets and revenue over the same period, which exceeded $42 billion in 2024.
In February 2025, Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said that only those foreign companies that the Russian Federation considers necessary for itself will be allowed to enter the Russian market. At the same time, he noted that in the sectors most important for technological sovereignty, absolute priority is given to domestic companies and brands from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
