A bright fireball flashed in the sky over the USA and Canada and disintegrated over the gulf

Residents of several US states and the Canadian province of Ontario witnessed a bright meteor in the night sky. This was announced on March 23 in the press service of NASA Space Alerts.

"Many eyewitnesses in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin and the Canadian province of Ontario reported on the website of the American Meteor Society about a bright meteor seen on March 23 at 21:31 (March 24, 04:31 GMT)," the message on the social network Facebook (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

The celestial body first appeared at an altitude of about 68 km above the city of Hope in Michigan and was moving in a northeasterly direction.

The meteor's speed reached about 46,000 km/h. It is specified that the reason for the bright flash was a small fragment of an asteroid — about 10 cm in diameter and weighing about half a kilogram. At the moment of maximum brightness, the car shone about 40 times stronger than the planet Venus, which made it noticeable to a large number of observers.

On March 18, NBC News reported that a large meteorite exploded in the sky over the US state of Ohio. It is noted that during fragmentation, energy equivalent to 250 tons of TNT was released, which caused sonic booms and explosions. Some fragments probably fell in the area of Medina County, Ohio.
