Russia believes that there is no justification for the continuation of the war in the Middle East. This is stated in a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry following a meeting between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov and UAE Ambassador to Moscow Mohammed Al-Jaber on March 24.
"The Russian side emphasized that this war should never have happened, there is no justification for its continuation. It is necessary to avoid further human and material losses by all means," the ministry said in a statement posted on its website.
The Foreign Ministry added that Russia firmly supports the UAE in defending its sovereignty and condemns targeted attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure. Moscow remains ready to provide mediation services in resolving the conflict, if such a request arises.
Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said on March 5 that Russia is in constant contact with Iran and the Gulf states, and is ready to play an active role in the peace process. According to him, Russia is witnessing "the unceremonious dismantling of the foundations of international law and the destruction of the global security architecture that has been formed for decades."
At the same time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia, together with its partners, would do everything to help create an atmosphere that would make a military operation against Iran impossible. The diplomat expressed doubt as to how much it would be possible to help by moral and political means, but stressed the need to do everything to make the voice of the overwhelming majority of the world community heard.
